NFB-NEWSLINE® Brings Over 300 Newspapers and Magazines to the Blind
The National Federation of the Blind offers a service, NFB-NEWSLINE®, which provides access to over 300 newspapers and magazines as well as TV listings to those individuals who cannot for whatever reason read the printed word.
NFB-NEWSLINE®, which is free of charge, is available to all members of the print-disabled community in most states across the US.
The creators of the service feel that access to newspaper content (such as analyses of current events, political commentary, and international news) is enriching and edifying, and serves to create a well-rounded and well-informed individual.
They find that individuals of all ages can benefit from their service; seniors in particular find great enjoyment in the use of NFB-NEWSLINE® as most members of this group were lifelong newspaper readers.
The service is also useful to students in performing research for their homework, or to business owners and managers who need to keep up-to-date on current business practices and the economic outlook.
It should be noted that, while the NFB-NEWSLINE® service was created by members and staff of the Federation, they do not restrict access to their service to members of other organizations, or to those unaffiliated with a blindness organization.
Further, the service is open to any member of the print-disabled community regardless of visual acuity; the only criterion is that the individual wishing to apply be unable read a newspaper.
Any individual who is served by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is already qualified for NFB-NEWSLINE®.
